The Neck lift operation removes neck fat, elevates and redrapes the skin and underlying musculature to eliminate laxity and sagging. The operation is designed to correct problems in the neck. It is an ideal precursor to the full facelift. Neck muscle bands are tightened to act as a sling for support. By wearing a supporting garment for two weeks the skin is repositioned to the underlying tissues, thus creating a more youthful neckline.
 

PROCEDURE

 

A small incision is placed below the chin, and a liposuction canula is used to remove excess fatty deposits. The underlying muscle is tied together to act as a sling. Skin is then elevated and redraped. By wearing the external garment skin is repositioned to a natural position. These results are long lasting and in fact act as a prelude to a more involved facelift. This procedure can postpone the facelift for some time.
 

RISKS

 

Though complications are relatively infrequent in a neck lift, they may occur. There can be some blood collection under the skin. This often can be treated during the follow-up office examination and will not affect the overall results.

Larger collections may require earlier and more vigorous treatment and could possibly require reopening of the surgical incision to remove the clotted blood. If a large amount of blood does collect and goes untreated the elevated skin flaps could be at risk of loosing blood supply. If increased pain is experienced immediately after surgery prompt action is necessary. Scarring occurs after any incision. In most cases, after neck lift, the scars are not perceivable.

The one draw back from this limited surgery is that skin is not excised. Your skin must shrink-wrap and adhere to the underlying tissues. That is why wearing the external neck garment is so vital to the surgical outcome. This surgery needs to be tailored to each individual. RESULTS

Generally, the entire operative procedure with all its modifications has been extremely successful and has provided significant personal satisfaction to many individuals.  The applicability of the operation to an individual patient, of course will be discussed during the private consultation.
 

POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

 

Dressings are removed the day after surgery.  Sutures are removed on post-op day 5-7.  Initially there may be a feeling of numbness and tension in the operative area.  This usually disappears within the first few postoperative weeks.  Swelling and bruising vary but are usually gone within a week or so.  An elastic sling dressing is worn 24 hours a day for the first two weeks and at night after that.  This action decreases the swelling tremendously and allows the skin to adhere in a good position.  Antibiotic and pain prescriptions will be provided.
