Rhinoplasty

image_1244485767_47741900g-300x199Rhinoplasty (also known as a nose job) is the oldest and one of the most popular forms of facial plastic surgery. Surgery is the only way to alter the shape of your nose and, as such a prominent feature, many people experience great satisfaction in getting the nose they’ve always wanted.

The goal of Rhinoplasty is to provide a balanced and pleasing shape to your nose while maintaining a natural look that is harmonious with the rest of your face. Even a slight change can make a big difference. Also, many rhinoplasty patients benefit from a chin implant to further enhance their profile.
Remember that cosmetic changes to the nose are inextricably linked to vital functions…like nasal breathing! This makes rhinoplasty one of the most complex and challenging facial procedures. It’s imperative that your surgeon have specialized training in not only cosmetic enhancement of the nose, but also expert knowledge of functional (breathing) nasal surgery.

Dually trained and board certified in Facial Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology (ENT), Dr. Karen has the expertise needed to successfully treat all nasal problems, both cosmetic and functional.

Rhinoplasty can correct:

  • Nose size and shape
  • Bumps in the nose
  • Tip of the nose that is bulbous, drooping or upturned
  • The nose profile
  • Nostrils that are large or not symmetrical
  • Nasal deviation

What Can I Expect?

Rhinoplasty can be performed under general anesthesia, either in our office surgical suite. Almost all incisions are performed on the inner aspect of the nose. A small incision on the bottom of the nose will also be utilized for access. This is performed in more difficult original procedures and complicated revision surgeries.

Guidelines for After Surgery

You can expect swelling and some bruising around the eyes after surgery which will begin to improve after the third day but lasts up to a couple of weeks. After that you will have a minor degree of swelling that will go away over the next six months. The final shape of your nose will be apparent after it has healed completely. More details will be provided at the time of your procedure.
