Body Contouring vs. Weight Loss

One of the services we’re proud to offer at Exclusively Faces is body contouring. This process allows you to reshape your figure, getting rid of stubborn fat deposits and achieving a greater sense of self-confidence. We have men and women alike who come to us for body contouring, and clients are generally thrilled with their results. One thing that’s important, though, is to set the proper expectations… specifically with regard to weight loss. Body contouring and weight loss are not the same thing, and if you expect to see a huge difference in your number on the scale, you may walk away from the body contouring experience slightly disappointed. Here’s a quick explanation.

Understanding Body Contouring

Body contouring is all about eliminating stubborn deposits of fat, the excess skin that you can’t seem to get rid of even through diet and exercise. The targeted area may be your belly, thighs, a “double chin,” your arms, your neck, or elsewhere. The ultimate goal is that you will have a more streamlined figure when the process is through. In other words, the results should be visible; you should be able to observe them in the mirror. You may not observe them on the scale, however, and here’s why. Imagine that you have a large bag stuffed to the brim with cotton balls. Then imagine that you remove quite a few of those cotton balls from the bag. Doing so may fundamentally change the shape and appearance of the bag, but it won’t make much impact on how much the bag weighs. That’s because the cotton balls don’t weigh very much themselves. Body contouring has a similar effect. Through the removal of fat cells, you’re changing the way your body looks… but those fat cells may not contribute much to your actual body weight. As such, body contouring allows you to shed flab, but it may not result in you dropping many pounds.

Why It Matters

This distinction is important for a couple of reasons. For one, it’s just good to have the right expectations. If you enter into body contouring looking to have a trimmer figure, you’ll probably be pleased with the results. If you just want to see the number on the scale change, though, then body contouring isn’t the right option for you. The other reason why this matters is that body contouring is most highly recommended for those who have reached a maintenance weight, and who have their diet and exercise under control. It’s for these individuals that body contouring will have the best, longest-lasting effect.
