Microneedling Q & A
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation procedure that creates tiny wounds in your skin. These microscopic injuries boost the production of collagen and other growth factors to ultimately give you smoother, younger-looking skin. Dr. Karen uses a radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device called Fractora to tighten your skin.
What are the benefits of Fractora over traditional microneedling?
Fractora is an advanced skin resurfacing system to improve the appearance of aging skin. The device adds the element of RF heat to traditional microneedling.
This gentle heat is delivered deep into your skin’s dermis, reducing your downtime and enhancing the skin-tightening effect. It’s also safe for all skin types and does not cause hyperpigmentation. It is often combined with FaceTite™ to optimize the nonsurgical skin tightening result.
What skin conditions are frequently treated with Fractora?
Fractora provides a superior solution to treat wrinkles, discoloration, and acne scarring compared with other cosmetic treatments. Dr. Karen uses the system to treat:
- Acne scars and stretch marks
- Excessive sweating, known medically as hyperhidrosis
- Loose skin of the cheeks, jowls, and neck
- Loose skin around your upper and lower eyelid
- Smoker’s lips
- Crow’s feet
- Dark spots (also called hyperpigmentation)
What does the procedure entail?
Thirty minutes before the procedure, Dr. Karen applies a numbing cream to your face. Depending on the type of treatment, some people may require a local anesthesia for further comfort. He then selects the appropriate Fractora tip and applies it directly to your skin to deliver gentle heat in the form of RF waves.
You may feel some warmth in the area treated. It takes about 45-120 minutes for a single session, and three sessions are typically required, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
There is minimal downtime with the treatment. You may observe some redness or swelling, but it goes away over a few days. There is an instant glow after the procedure, but the most visible improvement will take about 2-4 weeks, and your skin keeps improving for three months.
What kind of post-procedure care is required?
After the procedure, Dr. Karen gives you specific instructions about aftercare. You should avoid direct sun exposure for a few days after the treatment. Don’t scratch the skin and use a good moisturizer to keep your skin soft and supple. Always put on a high-SPF, broad-spectrum sunscreen every day. You can apply makeup after 24-48 hours.
