Mini Facelift Q & A
Who is a good candidate for a mini face-lift?
If you have noticed a loss of definition in the jaw due to sagging skin, wrinkles, or excess fat tissue around the face, and would like to restore your face’s appearance, a mini face-lift may be an effective option.
What are the benefits to a mini face-lift?
Besides the obvious and most blatant benefit to a mini face-lift, being the youthful rejuvenation of the face, there are a number of other benefits to the surgery. They are as follows:
Incisions are easily concealed within the facial contours and hairline.
Minimal Side Effects
Less swelling, bruising, and tenderness than a standard face-lift surgery.
The mini face-lift addresses the lower third of the face and neck, complementing natural features, giving you an enhancement commensurate with your degree of skin laxity and wrinkles.
What can I expect during the procedure?
During mini face-lift surgery, Dr. Karen will locate incisions in front of your ears that extend from the bottom of your earlobe to your hairline, behind your ear. Next, Dr. Karen will pull your tissues upward and outward toward your ears. This technique reduces sagging skin and jowls, as well as the appearance of wrinkles.
Once the SMAS and skin reach a position that accentuates your natural bone structure and facial contours, they are sutured into place, and excess tissue is trimmed away. Dr. Karen uses permanent sutures for the SMAS. Other surgeons may use surgical staples or removable sutures. A mini face-lift can take up to two hours.
What can I expect during a mini face-lift recovery?
In many cases, you will return to Dr. Karen’s office the day after surgery for a follow-up consultation, at which point you will be scheduled for further follow-up appointments to monitor recovery.
Common side effects in the days following the procedure include bruising, swelling, redness, sensitivity, temporary loss of sensation, and some discomfort.
Unlike regular face-lifts, with mini face-lifts, patients can be nearly entirely healed from their surgery after a mere week (this is case-by-case dependent). Because mini face-lifts are performed as outpatient surgery in Dr. Karen’s in-office operating room, you will return home the same day as the surgery.
You will likely have a follow-up within the few days following surgery. After a week, sutures are removed. Patients can expect to see changes immediately after swelling has subsided, so roughly 1-2 weeks’ time on average.
