What is Skin Resurfacing?

Over time, our skin takes on a lot of wear and tear. Eventually, it may show the signs of sun damage, of acne and other blemishes, or simply of age. Thankfully, there are safe, non-surgical ways to improve the appearance of the skin, including a procedure known as skin resurfacing. In this process, lasers are used to remove outer layers of skin, allowing new skin cells to form and give the face a tighter, younger look. We are pleased to offer skin resurfacing here at Exclusively Faces, specifically with a laser called the Lutronic Ultra. We’d love to tell you more about resurfacing, and welcome you to contact us with any specific questions. In the meantime, here are a few overarching points about what you can expect from laser skin resurfacing.

Getting Ready for Laser Skin Resurfacing

Initial Steps

First and foremost, you’ll want to come meet with one of our providers to ensure you’re a good candidate for a safe and effective procedure.  If you decide to go ahead with laser skin resurfacing, your doctor may advise you to abstain from certain medications, including OTC pain relievers, for about 10 days beforehand. You’ll also need to stop smoking.

How Long Do Treatments Last?

A single Ultra laser treatment may take anywhere from five minutes to half an hour, simply depending on the area being treated. It’s generally a very quick and easy process, with some patients literally coming in for laser skin resurfacing while on their lunch hour.

Post-Procedure Down Time

Following laser skin resurfacing, you’ll probably experience some redness in your face. Other than that, though, there really shouldn’t be any side effects, and you’re welcome to immediately resume normal activities, including school or work. Usually, the redness clears up within five to seven days.

Does It Hurt?

There can sometimes be a little discomfort associated with laser skin resurfacing, though the amount of discomfort can vary from patient to patient. You can expect it to be mild to moderate. Your provider may offer a topical numbing cream to help mediate that pain, and if not, feel free to request it.

Number of Treatments Needed

Another common question: How many laser skin resurfacing treatments will you need? It depends on the condition you’re looking to treat. For some patients, a single treatment is all it takes. For others, several treatments may be needed. You can ask your provider to set the right expectations for your Ultra skin resurfacing treatments.
